Mike Anderson - Head Coach

Mike Anderson comes to the University of Montana with a passion for the game of hockey, and a love for the city of Missoula.

Mike has coached from the U10 level to Tier III Jr. A as the assistant coach for the Missoula Jr Bruins for 2 seasons. Mike is a firm believer that hockey should be fulfilling and fun, and that our players are college students first, hockey players second. For Mike, the best hockey is hockey played with possession, purpose, and passion.

A native of St. Paul, MN Mike grew up playing hockey for his neighborhood association, Mike went on to play high school hockey for the now-defunct St. Paul Saints program. After finishing his career as the career leader in points for the school, Mike went on to pursue the dream of playing college hockey. This dream took him to the University of New England, the MnJHL with the Hudson Crusaders, and finally Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota.

While in college, Mike also started his own adult hockey league (the Shop Pond Hockey League) in St. Paul, MN which is now in its 8th year of existence. During this time Mike was able to help train players at Build Your Game Hockey training in Blaine, MN with long-time mentor and seasoned hockey trainer, Dave Perri. He now does hockey training, clinics, and camps under the banner of Build Your Game Missoula here in town.

Upon graduation, Mike moved back to St. Paul and was fortunate enough to be an assistant coach for the Mounds View Boy’s High School Hockey team for the 2014-15 season. The following summer, Mike and his wife moved out to Missoula, MT. Mike was on a men’s league team before he even had a job. The first two winters Mike coached with the Missoula Youth Hockey Association helping with the A Pee Wee teams.

As stated above, Mike was the assistant coach with the Missoula Jr Bruins of the NA3HL from 2018-2020, and then has spent this current season as the U10 Lead Coach and Skills Coach for Missoula Youth Hockey Association.

Mike is ecstatic to be a part of the University of Montana Men’s Hockey program. He could not be more thankful to the executive board and is ready to go in building this program up with Coach Will and everyone else involved.

Will Grossmann - Associate Head Coach

Will Grossmann was born and raised in Toledo, Ohio. He grew up playing youth hockey between the Toledo Ice diggers and the Sylvania Maple Leafs. During High School he played for St. Francis De Sales High School and in his senior year helped them reach the Ohio state semi finals. After high school Will had the choice to play Juniors for the Toledo Cherokee or head to College and decided going to college was the right choice. While attending the University of Toledo he played for the University's ACHA D2 team where he averaged more than a point per game. His career in Toledo was cut short when he moved to Missoula to explore new options and was taken into the Missoula hockey community with open arms. Soon after moving he enrolled at the University of Montana to study exercise science. While being in Missoula Will has helped coach clinics, practices, and has been involved in organizing multiple mens league teams. Will currently works for Hockey Wolf where he helps provide teams from all around the country and in every league the gear and apparel they need to look good on and off the ice. Hockey has been Will’s passion since the age of 2 and during the winter you can find him at the rink 4 days a week or out on the ponds helping his niece develop her hockey skills. During the summer Will can be found either on the river or the golf course and enjoying all the amazing things Missoula has to offer.
